Mandy is a leading energy and environmental lawyer in South Africa, with nearly a decade of experience with an advisory focus on the regulatory, environmental, and contractual aspects of energy and natural resource projects.

As a Director at NSDV Law, she is the Head of Energy, leading a team that specialises in energy regulation, environmental compliance, and natural resources law, with one of her key passions being the renewable energy sector as its prominence continues to grow globally and in Southern Africa.

Mandy has been a key advisor on over 20 projects which fall under South Africa’s Renewable Energy and Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producers Procurement Programmes, with the majority being awarded the preferred bidder status and progressing to construction and implementation.

She has also supported private energy projects that provide power directly to off-takers, which include large mining operations.

Recognised as a thought leader, Mandy frequently speaks at industry conferences and has appeared in multiple media interviews as a subject matter expert for multiple topics including, green hydrogen and energy transition law.

Although initially focused on South Africa, during her career she has also advised on projects across Africa and the globe and was involved in the design and publication of the regulatory reform work for Saudi Arabia’s mining sector, focusing on environmental and mine health and safety laws.

Mandy’s experience includes:

  • Advising across the energy, mining, oil and gas sectors, with an additional focus on occupational and mine health and safety, consumer protection, civil aviation, administrative, constitutional, and customary law.
  • Legal guidance on Renewable Energy Credit (REC) transactions, including the organisational structure and regulatory compliance.
  • Leading due diligence investigations to deliver legal opinions on environmental matters across multiple industries.
  • Drafting legal updates across the full suite of South African mining and environmental legislation.
  • Providing legal guidance on the environmental aspects of contractual arrangements for major infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Full legal support for matters relating to environmental authorisations and other regulatory licences, including appeals.
  • Conducting environmental and regulatory compliance audits.
