Luca is a Senior Associate in NSDV Law’s Mining and Environmental Law Department. He has experience in a wide range of regulatory matters across several sectors, including mining, property, oil & gas, renewable energy, and conservation. 

Of the many characteristics that endear Luca to his clients, his thorough commitment to projects is among the most notable.

Prior to joining NSDV, Luca was an associate and sustainability consultant at specialist law firm Warburton Attorneys Inc., and IMBEWU Sustainability Legal Consultants respectively. Luca also served as a candidate attorney at Cullinan & Associates, an environmental law firm in Cape Town.

Luca’s experience includes:

• Litigating civil and criminal environmental law matters before the High Court.

• Litigating land claims before the Land Court.

• Conducting environmental legal due diligence and assisting in safety, health, and environmental compliance audits.

• Advising mining and non-mining clients on environmental impact assessments and public participation processes under the NEMA EIA Regulations.

• Handling appeals under the NEMA EIA Regulations and MPRDA, as well as before the Water Tribunal.

• Advising on liability under NEMA and ECA.

• Assisting with the submission of Contaminated Land Notifications in terms of NEM:WA.

• Assisting with compensation claims by communities affected by operations.

• Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements under legislation such as the MPRDA, NEMA, NEM:WA, NWA, and WSA.
